Free tool · Lifetime value

How much more is a plan member worth?

Customer lifetime value is the gross profit a customer brings each year multiplied by how many years they stay. A plan changes both parts: plan profit plus member jobs (less any discount) each year, and the share who renew. Enter your own retention for each group below; nothing is pre-filled from industry figures.

Common questions

How is lifetime value worked out?+

Yearly profit without a plan = jobs per year × average job × margin. Yearly profit for a member = (plan price − your cost to deliver the visits) + member jobs × average job × (margin − member discount). Expected years = 1 + r + r² + … for the number of years you choose, where r is the share who stay each year. Lifetime value = yearly profit × expected years.

Why gross profit and not revenue?+

Revenue makes a discounted plan look better than it is. Gross profit shows what's left after the cost of the work. The full breakdown shows lifetime revenue too.

Where do I get retention numbers?+

From your own records: of the customers who booked in a year, how many booked again the next year; and of your members, how many renewed. If you don't have a plan yet, the member figure is a guess, so try a few values. We don't publish typical retention rates because we haven't found figures we trust.

Is there a discount rate or interest in this?+

No. The tool simply adds up expected profit year by year with no discounting, interest or finance charges.

Is anything stored?+

No. Everything runs in your browser. If you unlock the full view we store your email, the tool, the number of years and the currency.
